The Cancer Society Auckland has taken an innovative step towards smart, green power savings, with the installation of a 126 panel solar power system to its patient accommodation facility, Domain Lodge. The system was fully funded by donations and gives projected savings of over $250,000 for the next 25 years. Cancer Society can now redirect those funds to its core services and will see savings start immediately.
SolarKing Ltd was pleased to come onboard as the solar partner for the project. Roy Maddox of SolarKing states, “One of SolarKing’s key goals to assist as many community projects as possible achieve long term savings through owning their own solar power systems. This then allows the organization’s to spend their valuable money on resources, essentials items and services.”
SolarKing and Cancer Society Auckland developed a simple system for funding the project. Called “Power Up the Cancer Society”, it invited business or individuals to donate directly towards the system.
The interest and uptake in the project was so successful the system was fully funded and installed within 6 months of launching. John Loof, Chief Executive of Cancer Society Auckland Division, and Roy Maddox are now in discussions for stage 2, to provide further savings for Cancer Society Auckland.
